If your picky eater doesn’t like chicken, it may be a texture issue rather than the taste. Try this poaching method of cooking for a softer meat that’s a lot easier for children to eat.

When kids struggle to eat meat it’s often a texture issue, particularly with chicken. It can be dry, tough and generally a difficult meat to eat.
If this sounds familiar in your family then try this poaching method instead. It makes the meat super soft and easier for children to chew.

Simply take some whole chicken breasts and add them to a large saucepan of cold water.

This is optional but I like to add a chicken stock pot or stock cube to add a little flavour.
Bring to the boil, reduce to a simmer and cook for 15 minutes or a little longer if the chicken breasts are very big.

Remove the cooked chicken breasts from the water. There will be a lot of white foam at the top of the water, or slightly beige coloured if you have used a stock pot. This is totally normal so just ignore it!

Use two forks to shred the chicken into small pieces.
The poached chicken will keep in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.

There’s so many ways to use and serve up this poached chicken. Here I’ve added it to a simple Cheese Pasta dish for my son. I also add it to rice dishes, in sandwiches and wraps and in salads for the adults.
