Pancakes made with just two ingredients. Gluten, dairy and sugar free. Perfect for baby led weaning and older children too!
Feeding kids is hard enough but weaning babies can be even harder. Starting with such a small and limited range of foods it can be difficult to come up with easy and nutritious meals other than pureed fruit and veg.
Today I’m sharing one of my favourite recipes that I used when weaning my baby… super easy and delicious Two Ingredient Pancakes.
I love these pancakes for so many reason. They are quick and easy to whip up. They are nutritious and are made with bananas and eggs, two ingredients that I always seem to have on hand at home.
They are also really soft, making them the perfect food for baby led weaning.
But at the same time they also appeal to older children, meaning you don’t have to make separate meals or snacks. Brilliant!
Although any kind of banana will work in this recipe it is better to use a very ripe one. Ripe bananas are not only easier to mash but they also taste sweetener, making the pancakes more appealing to little ones.
This means that the pancakes need no added sweetener, keeping them super healthy and nutritious for both babies and older kids.
This recipe will make approximately 10 pancakes but you can easily double or triple the quantities if you are feeding a crowd.
The pancakes are best served warm but can also be cooled and kept in the fridge for up to 48 hours.
I’ve also made a 3 Ingredient Baby Weaning Pancake recipe if you’d like to try that.

Description
Pancakes made with just two ingredients. Gluten, dairy and sugar free. Perfect for baby led weaning and older children too!
Ingredients
- 1 ripe banana
- 1 egg
- butter or coconut oil for frying
Instructions
- Mash the banana. In a separate bowl beat the egg with a fork. Add the banana and mix until well combined. Or if you are lazy like me you can just bung it all in a blender and blitz for a few seconds!
- Heat a little butter or coconut oil in a frying pan over a medium heat. Add one tablespoon of the mixture to make each pancake. It will depend on the size of your frying pan but you should be able to cook 5 pancakes at a time.
- Fry for approximately 2 minutes on either side or until the pancakes start to brown.
- Serve immediately with some chopped fresh fruit.

What inspired you to create these two-ingredient pancakes specifically for baby-led weaning? Did you encounter any challenges in finding nutritious and appealing foods for your baby during the weaning process?
Lauren says
So easy! One question: are they supposed to be really thin? Mine turned out almost like crepe thin
Vicky says
Hi, Yes they are meant to be almost crepe like, so it sounds like you make them perfectly. If you would like them thicker please try our three ingredient ones. hope this helps, happy cooking. x

Just tried this recipe for my nine month old and she loved the pancakes. We made five and she’s eaten three today and saved two for tomorrow. Super quick and easy to make.
Megs says
Wow so easy to make and these were perfect for my son. Have been trying to introduce eggs but he hasn’t been interested in trying them at all. The banana flavour is stronger than the egg so he loves them and now’s he’s finally getting some egg exposure!

This a such an amazing & easy recipe! My 6mth baby loved it! We used the organic virgin coconut oil we bought for his dry skin when he was born so it wasn’t such a bad idea getting it all over his face & hands!
Ciara Attwell says
So glad he liked them Kim. I use coconut oil to cook them in too. Gives them a lovely subtle taste!

Hi! Do you think I could use a flax egg instead of egg? My daughter has a very long list of intolerances, egg included, and I’m having such a hard time finding breakfast ideas for her! Thanks in advance!
Vicky says
Hi Karen, yes most definitely give it a try. I’ve attached a link for flax egg.

I tried it today my baby loved it. Will save some for her breakfast tomorrow. Thanks for sharing !
Brittany says
I’m going to try these tonight for my son. What do you consider to be a large banana? I’m worried that I might not use enough egg or that if I use two, they won’t turn out right.
Ciara Attwell says
Use your judgment as eggs and banana can sometimes be different sizes. You can add a little flour or oats if they are too runny.
Falak says
Hi,
Thank you so much for the recipe. I was just wondering if i can cook them a night before and put it in refrigerator and give my baby in the morning. Should it be fine?
Ciara Attwell says
Hi Falak, that would be absolutely fine. You could warm them gently in the microwave if your baby doesn’t like cold food.
Katherin says
My daughter is allergic to eggs do you know of a replacement that would work just as well?
Ciara Attwell says
I haven’t tried to make these with egg replacements sorry!

Hello, is it ok to introduce 8 month old baby to egg?, i have read and heard to avoid egg till 1yr.
And is egg easily digestible?
Ciara Attwell says
The advice depends on which country you live in but here in the UK egg is fine for an 8 month old. Make sure you use British lion marked eggs.
Courtney says
They are recommended introducing high allergen foods early now to combat allergic reactions. (If you have no family history of allergies) My 6 month old has eggs everyday!

She added 2 eggs and recipe says 1 egg.
Which is correct?
Ciara Attwell says
In the video the banana I used was very large so I used 2 eggs. But for normal sized banana just use 1 egg

Hi
I love this recipe thank you so much for sharing. It’s actually nice to make some for myself and that makes it easier for my son to eat seeing me eating the same.
Just one question. Could I try this with any other fruit like raspberries or mango?
Ciara Attwell says
Hello! The banana helps to bind the pancakes so I wouldn’t leave it out. You could add extra fruit to it for flavour though.
Jackie says
I made these for my 10 month olds first finger food. She absolutely loved it! I couldn’t believe it. Thank you for the recipe!

Namrata says
Did you give your ten month old the whole pancake to munch on ? Or broke into little pieces ?
Ciara Attwell says
Its up to you, depending how confident you think they are with holding food and self-feeding.
Alice Taylor says
Can these be frozen?
I just made them and loved how quick and easy it was but there’s a lot left over so was hoping to freeze.
Ciara Attwell says
Yes they can be frozen!
Julie Hood says
Brilliant!!! Thank you for this!!!
Alex says
Awful. Stuck to the pan. Needs another ingredient to bind it.
★
Ciara Attwell says
Use a non-stick pan!
Maunalee says
What did I do wrong?? Mine turned mushy, wouldn’t flip, and were not good at all :/ I blended the ingredients in a baby bullet, used coconut oil in the frying pan…I just don’t get it.
Ciara Attwell says
You have to make sure that they cook completely on one side before you try to flip them, otherwise they will fall apart.
Yasmeen Qureshi says
It’s not the cooking time as I ended up over cooking mine but still broke apart. I did exactly the same. I think it may be the baby bullet. I’m going to try doing it by hand.
Kat says
My 10 month old gobbled these right up!! She’s normally a slow eater but she just kept going and going in on these pancakes! I tried them myself and it was delicious!
I added about 1tbs of her “lil bits strawberry oatmeal” which added tiny bits of strawberry in them. ????
Ciara Attwell says
Awww, sounds like she really enjoyed them!

Jessica says
These were great!! I added some cinnamon, blended the batter in my baby bullet, and cooked these on my electric skillet. They turned out perfect- but you are right they really need to cook all the way through before attempting to flip. I would test each one with my spatula a little before flipping to see if they would easily come off the skillet. It also helps a lot I was using a pancake spatula 🙂
★★★★★
Ciara Attwell says
I really need to get myself a pancake spatula. Might put it on my christmas list!!
NK says
Great recipes!! Might be a silly question ????can I just add egg yolk instead of egg white? Thanks a lot
Ciara Attwell says
It might work but I can’t say for certain as I never tried it myself.
Jemma says
I added 2 tablespoons of milled flaxseed with the mashed banana, then added to the egg. Worked out great then added chopped blueberries at the end – 8 month old loved it.
Ciara Attwell says
That sounds delicious!
Anika says
I just made these and they smell so yummy I wanted to nibble on it myself but no, they are for my little man to try!
I was wondering whether these can be frozen?

Hey mommies! I have a 9 month old little girl who has all of a sudden started rejecting her baby food. All she wants is yogurt and baby cheese puffs. She dididn’t eat some scrambled eggs the other night. I am quiet discouraged.
I tried these this morning and it was a disaster. As soon as they hit the skillet (low to medium heat) they turned black. They were so mushy and burnt. 🙁
Any suggestions on this and or other foods I can try with her?
Feel free to email me.

Hi Amna, that’s fantastic news! I am so glad she enjoyed them!
Jessica says
I feel like an idiot I don’t know what I’m doing wrong
But my parents cakes fall apart and won’t flip
I tired to not lend them as much still the same thing
Ciara Attwell says
Hi Jessica, make sure they are fully cooked on one side before trying to flip them. Because they don’t contain any flour it is more difficult to get them to bind together, so make sure they are cooked through on one side before flipping!
Jessica says
Thank you so much ! I tired again today and that’s what it was …..I was in a rush and I was flipping them way too early ….it’s almost like you have to over cook them before you flip…lol thanks again
Ciara Attwell says
So glad they worked this time. I will amend the recipe to mention that as other people may be having the same problem.
Britney says
I add a little baby oatmeal to mine and they are MUCH easier to make and fluffier.
Ciara Attwell says
That’s a good idea. Oat pancakes are delicious!
Kiran says
Does milk need to be added if using rolled oats?
Ciara Attwell says
You may need to add a small amount of milk depending on the quantity of oats you are using.
Britney says
I don’t add milk. I add just enough ground oats (aka baby oatmeal) to make the batter a bit thicker. I really just eye ball it and sometimes add more after making the first batch. I find that the oatmeal makes them easier to cook and fluffier!
kelly says
Hi, can I just use the egg yolk and not the egg white?
Ciara Attwell says
Hi, I haven’t tried it with just the egg white but it might work! Let me know how it turns out!
Britney says
I tried to make these and cooking them was a bit of a disaster. When I tried to cook them, they spread out super thin and were impossible to flip. What am I doing wrong?
Isa says
Hi! Can I bake this instead of frying the pancake? If yes, a what temperature and for how long? Thank you so much! (I know it will be a “skinny version of a pancake” 😉
Ciara Attwell says
Hi Isa! I can’t say for definite that it would work as I haven’t tried it myself. But definitely worth a try. Probably 180c / 370f for 5-10 mins max.
Brenna says
I really wanted this to work, but I think this recipe needs a very small banana or even two eggs. I followed the recipe as written and they tasted good but were so mushy they were inedible. My daughter, who eats everything, just mashed them into the tray and I threw the rest out.
nada says
if my baby doesnt eat it when u finished cooking ..can i give it to him after 1 hour? and where to keep it ?
Ciara Attwell says
Hi Nada, yes they are safe to keep in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
