A delicious rich Chocolate Fudge Cake made in the slow cooker. The perfect weekend treat and so good served with ice cream and chocolate sauce!
What Is Slow Cooker Chocolate Cake
Yes you read that right… chocolate cake cooked in the slow cooker! I know this seems strange but trust me on this, it’s really good!
I’ll admit this recipe won’t win any cake awards and I certainly wouldn’t be applying to go on Bake Off with it! But it’s easy, it’s foolproof and it tastes amazing which is all that really matters!
How To Make Chocolate Cake In A Slow Cooker
The main dry ingredients for this Slow Cooker Chocolate Fudge Cake are pretty simple. I use:
- Flour
- Sugar
- Chocolate Chips
- Cocoa Powder
- Baking Powder
Add them into a well greased slow cooker (you can grease with oil or butter) and then mix well.
Next goes in the wet ingredients:
- Butter
- Milk
- Vanilla Extract
I melted the butter in the microwave then mixed it with the milk and vanilla extract and added to the slow cooker. Then stir until all the ingredients are well combined.
The last part of the prep for this cake is a little unusual but it’s what gives the cake it’s fudge consistency so please don’t skip it!
You will need:
- Boiling Water
- Cocoa Powder
- Brown Sugar
Mix them together in a jug and pour this into the slow cooker over the cake mixture. This is really important… do not stir! Just pop the lid on the slow cooker and leave it to cook.
I cook it for 2 hours on High.
The result is the most delicious soft and gooey Chocolate Fudge Cake that you will want to eat straight from the slow cooker!
The top will be dark brown but dig in and you’ll find the most incredible fudge cake consistency underneath.
You can’t slice this cake as you would a normal cake. Instead spoon it straight into a bowl and top with ice cream and chocolate sauce.
My kids absolutely loved it. I made it last weekend and Aoife has asked me every day since if I can make it again. So it’s a big thumbs up from her!

Love this recipe. I make it in a soufflé dish that sits inside the slow cooker and pour hot water round it as a bain marie for cooking. Works really well and makes keeping any leftovers much easier if you need your slow cooker pot the next day.
