Cream crackers are the secret ingredient to getting these turkey nuggets super crunchy! A great dinner to fussy and picky eaters!
I don’t think I’ve met a kid that doesn’t like chicken nuggets. My fussy eater hates chicken with a passion but slap on some breadcrumbs and suddenly it’s her most favourite thing ever! I had some turkey breast meat to use up recently so I decided to try making her favourite nuggets but with turkey meat instead.
Although not as common as it’s chicken cousin, turkey is fantastic meat to cook for kids. It has a slightly higher protein content and outside of Thanksgiving and Christmas season it is usually a lot cheaper too.
I make so many nuggets in various forms for my kids so I’m always experimenting with how to get the crunchiest coating whilst keeping them as healthy as possible. I am forever throwing away half eaten packets of crackers that have gone soft in the back of the cupboard and so one day I decided to try out using cream crackers as a coating. They have since become a firm favourite in my house!
I’m not sure if you can get cream crackers outside of the UK but most other crackers will work just as well. You could even try some flavoured ones, maybe cheese flavoured? Yum!
My recipe makes a lot of nuggets, enough for at least six childrens portions. You can of course halve the recipe to make just enough for dinner but I would really encourage you to freeze a batch uncooked. Simply pop them onto a plate or tray and freeze in a single layer until frozen. You can then transfer to a freezer bag. Or what I do is layer them in a deep lunchbox with a piece of tin foil or parchment paper between each layer which stops them from sticking together.
