These Sausage & Cherry Tomato Skewers make a fun lunch idea for kids, perfect to pop into lunch boxes for school or work!
With the kids heading back to school for a new year you may be thinking about some different lunch box ideas to send with them. Packing lunches that are nutritious, filling and interesting every day is no easy task, especially if you are trying to get your kids to eat something more than a sandwich!
So over the next week I’m going to be posting lots of lunch box ideas that are quick and easy to prepare but fun and interesting for kids.
Sausage & Cherry Tomato Skewers
For this lunch box you will need:
- chipolata sausages
- cherry tomatoes
- lettuce leaves
- breadsticks
- sugar snap peas
- mango
- strawberries
I used pork sausages for this recipe but I sometimes use chicken sausages too. You could even use veggie sausages if you prefer, they will all work perfectly!
Whilst the sausages are baking in the oven you can prepare the rest of the lunch. Or if you don’t have time to cook the sausages in the morning, it’s totally fine to cook them the night before, cool and then store in the fridge.
For the rest of the lunchbox you can really pack anything that you like. I try to make my lunches as balanced as possible so I add some breadsticks for carbs but slices of toasted pitta bread or some wraps would work really well too.
To finish off the lunch box I’ve added some fruit and veggies for a complete nutritious meal.

My little girl loved these! I think the novelty of the skewers helped and it was nice to serve something a bit differently presented for a change.
