A quick and simple hot chocolate recipe, made with almond and coconut milk and spiked with mint!

Hot Chocolate has to be the ultimate winter warmer. There’s nothing better than snuggling into the sofa on a freezing night with a mug of steaming creamy chocolate milk.
Now I know it’s so easy to chuck a few spoonfuls of hot chocolate mix into a glass of warmed milk but taking just a few extra minutes to make your own with proper chocolate will be well worth it. I promise!
Not only will you be making a far superior drink but you’ll also be skipping the unnecessary sugars and added extras that are loaded into pre-made hot chocolate mix.
And by using a high percentage cocoa chocolate (I used 70% cocoa for this) you’ll also be reaping some of the fantastic antioxidant benefits of dark chocolate. Win win!

What Milk Should You Use?
I used a mix of almond and coconut milk in this recipe. The coconut milk gives a lovely sweetness to the drink which meant that I only needed to use one tablespoon of honey to sweeten it to my fussy eaters tastes.
Obviously cow’s milk would work just as well, along with soya milk and goat’s milk. However you may want to add a little more honey to it.
If you are unsure how the mint will go down with little taste buds then try just adding half the amount to start with as it can be a strange flavour for kids to get used to.

Do you make your own hot chocolate and do you add any particular flavours to it?
