I am a big believer in getting as much use as possible out of kitchen gadgets. If you’re going to spend money on something and it’s going to take up space in your cupboards then it needs to be used at least once a week in my opinion!

Waffles are delicious but this is a brilliant recipe to make instead when you’re short on time or you don’t want to faff around with making a waffle batter.

The recipe is essentially french toast filled inside with jam… so tasty and perfect for a quick and easy breakfast for the kids.

Waffle Iron Recommendations

I bought this waffle iron from Aldi and it doesn’t seem to be available online anymore but this Waffle Iron from Amazon looks identical.

Jam being spread onto a piece of white bread with a knife.

The first step is to spread some jam on two slices of bread and then put together as if you are making a sandwich.

Any type of jam will work just fine in this recipe.

Raw egg cracked into a small white mixing bowl.

Next, add an egg and some milk to a shallow but wide bowl like the one above.

Whisk well with a fork until the milk and egg are combined.

Place the jam sandwich into the mixture and let it soak into the bread.

Then turn over and do the same on the other side.

Olive oil being sprayed onto the waffle maker.

Spray the top and bottom of the waffle iron with some spray oil.

Add the sandwich and cook for 2 minutes.

Waffle french toast cooked in the waffle maker, looking all golden brown.

When cooked, remove and cut into 4 pieces if it hasn’t completely separated.

Allow the toast to cool for a few minutes as the jam inside will be hot.

Serve with some greek yogurt and fresh fruit for a delicious breakfast that the kids will love.

This recipe is brilliant for kids who don’t like eggs. It’s a great way to get a whole serving into them without eating eggs in the usual way. Packed with protein and it will help keep them full all morning.
