No toastie maker? No problem! Use your plain old toaster to make these delicious toasted cheese and ham sandwiches. A quick, easy and tasty lunch or after school snack for kids!
How To Make A Toasted Sandwich in the Toaster
You really can’t beat a toasted sandwich for a simple lunch or a speedy snack to whip up for the kids after a long day at school. But you don’t need a toasted sandwich maker or any other fancy equipment like that. A plain old toaster will do the trick too! Here’s how!
Take two slices of bread (white, wholemeal or 50/50 bread like I’m using here). Butter the inside of the bread and then add whatever fillings you like. My kids love a simple ham and cheese toastie.
Remove the crusts then use your fingers to seal the edges by pressing down firmly. Pop into the toaster for a few minutes, cut into two and then serve.
You might be tempted to butter the outside of the sandwich but DON’T! It will make the bread stick to the inside of the toaster and it will all fall apart. You’ve been warned!
I serve mine with some chopped veg, perfect for a quick or easy lunch. And also great for an after school snack now the kids are back at school and will no doubt come home hangry!!
Toasted Sandwich Fillings
I made a simple ham and cheese toastie here as that’s what my kids like these fillings would be delicious too:
- Chicken and pesto
- Bacon and brie
- Pizza – tomato sauce, mozzarella and salami
- Cheddar and onion
