Pineapple Slushie

Jump To Recipe Print Recipe

Packed with hydration and nutrients, this homemade Pineapple Slushie makes a brilliant frozen summer snack or drink for kids

This Pineapple Slushie is brilliant to make for kids during the summer, especially in a heatwave. Not only is it a really fun snack but it's super hydrating, perfect for getting lots of water and nutrients into them on a hot day.

Its really healthy too with only two ingredients - fresh pineapple and ice. No added sugar, colourings or additives unlike the slushies you buy in the shops.

Serve it up in the pineapple skin and the kids will absolutely love it!

How To Make A Pineapple Slushie

I've included some step by step images here but the full recipe is also in the recipe card towards the bottom of this post. It's best that adults make this recipe. Cutting into the pineapple with the knife can be tricky and you need to be careful that you don't pierce through the skin.

  1. Cut the top off the pineapple.
  1. Cut into the pineapple to remove the flesh, being careful not to pierce the skin.
  1. Remove as much of the pineapple flesh as you can.
  1. Add to a blender with ice and blitz.

You will need a large blender like I have here. Or a smaller blender but blitz it in batches. I also recommend a high powered blender like this Ninja Blender to be able to crush the ice.

ingredients in a ninja food possessor.

SERVING

Once blitzed up and the ice is all crushed, pour the slushie into the pineapple skin, add some straws and serve up the kids. So fun and super healthy too!

There will be a little slushie leftover which you can pour into a glass for yourself or use to top up the pineapple once the kids have drank some.

Variations

If your kids don't like pineapple then you can try this with watermelon instead.

Exactly the same process, just cut the top of the watermelon, remove the flesh and blend with ice. Then pour back into the watermelon skin.

STORING

This slushie is best drank immediately after making. If you have any leftovers you can freeze them in ice lolly moulds for a healthy popsicle another day.

Product Recommendation

The Ninja 3-in-1 food processor and blender is a brilliant gadget. I've had mine for 7 years now and it's still as good as new. Definitely worth the investment.

Description

Packed with hydration and nutrients, this homemade Pineapple Slushie makes a brilliant frozen summer snack or drink for kids

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 fresh pineapple
  • 400g ice

Instructions

1. Cut the top off the pineapple.

2. Cut into the flesh to remove it. I find it easiest to do this by running a knife along the edge of the flesh and then cut chunks from the pineapple.

3. Be careful not to pierce through the skin of the pineapple.

4. Once you have removed as many large chunks as you can, you can use an ice cream scoop to remove any remaining flesh.

5. Add the pineapple to a blender with the ice and blitz until all the ice is crushed.

6. Pour the slushie back into the pineapple to serve. There will be a little slushie leftover that won't fit into the pineapple but you can add this to a glass.

Notes

This Slushie is best served immediately after making.

Any leftovers can be added to ice lolly moulds and frozen.
