One Pot Prawn Orzo

Jump To Recipe Print Recipe

A super simple 10 minute meal for kids and great way to get fussy eaters to eat seafood!

One Pot Prawn Orzo served in a bright red bowl with white polka dots, with a bright green spoon beside the bowl, Orzo garnished with grated cheese.

Prawns and seafood in general can be a tricky food to get kids to eat. The taste, smell and texture can be really off-putting and I know my own kids still struggle with it.

But this One Pot Orzo recipe has been a gamechanger when it comes to them eating prawns so I thought I would share it in case it helps any other parents.

How To Get Kids To Eat Prawns

The key to this recipe is using super small prawns. They are really inconspicuous when mixed in with the orzo and smaller prawns tend to be a bit milder in flavour and sweeter too.

And the bonus is they're also a lot more affordable. I picked up this 250g from Sainsbury for £2.72 and all supermarkets sell a similar own brand bag.

The full recipe with all the measurements is in the recipe card at the bottom of this post but I've also included some step by step photos here.

  1. Add the orzo, prawns and frozen peas to a saucepan.
  1. Cover with hot vegetable stock.
  1. Bring to the boil and simmer for 6-7 minutes.
  1. Stir in creme fraiche and pinch of garlic powder.

It's then ready to serve up and you can add some grated on top too if your kids like it.

Storage

This recipe is best eaten immediately after cooking. If you store the leftovers in the fridge the sauce will dry out.
