A healthy chocolate chia shake for kids packed with energy boosting chia seeds!
Kids love a chocolate shake right?! They don’t have a reputation for being the healthiest of snacks but there is a way to make your own at home without any of the usual added nasties or refined sugar.
I’ve added to chia seeds to my chocolate shake, often referred to as being the most nutritious foods on the planet.
They are packed full of fibre, protein, Omega-3 fatty acids and antioxidants.
You can usually buy two types of chia seeds; black and white.
Black seeds are the whole seeds whereas as white chia seeds have been de-husked.
I’ve included 1 tablespoon of chia seeds in my recipe but if your children are not used to eating them then I would recommend starting off with a smaller amount.
Substitutions:
I used cows milk and greek yogurt in my recipe, but you can also make a dairy free version by swapping the cows milk and greek yogurt with the following alternatives:
- almond milk
- soy milk
- oat milk
- coconut milk
- dairy free greek yogurt
During the summer I often use a frozen banana and also some frozen yogurt to make the shake extra cold!

Description

Ingredients
- 500ml / 2 cups milk
- 100g / ½ cup plain greek yogurt
- 1 banana
- 1 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 tbsp chia seeds
- 1 tsp honey
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
- Put all the ingredients into a blender and blitz until completely smooth.
- Serve immediately.
