A delicious apple cake flavoured with Schwartz Ground Cinnamon and sweetened only with fruit and honey
Sponsored Post

This is the perfect time of year to make an apple cake. Apples are in season right now in the UK and are abundant everywhere. When it comes to flavour pairings for an apple cake you really can’t beat the classic combination of apples and cinnamon.
This week I’ve teamed up with Schwartz who have re-branded their jars of herbs and spices with a fresh new design and packaging which:
- Locks in the flavour with a freshness seal so that the herbs and spices last longer;
- Allows you to easily fit a teaspoon into the jars for quick and easy measuring; and
- Makes the jars stackable on your shelf, saving space!

To help celebrate this re-launch I’ve made four delicious and easy recipes using Schwartz Ground Cinnamon. Cinnamon is a wonderfully versatile spice that can be used in both sweet and savoury dishes. The first three recipes I’ve made are:
- Cinnamon Overnight Oats;
- Cinnamon Smoothie; and
- Cinnamon Spiced Salmon
And today I’m sharing my recipe for this delicious Cinnamon & Apple Cake.

This cake is healthier than most apple cake recipes. It uses honey and also apple sauce to sweeten it rather than refined white sugar. You can either use homemade apple sauce or shop-bought; either is absolutely fine. A lot of shop bought apple sauce has added sugar but you can get some sugar-free varieties or else use pouches of baby puree apple sauce either, that’s what I tend to use!
This is optional but I topped the cake with a mixture of chopped apples sprinkled with a little brown sugar and some more cinnamon.

Description
A delicious apple cake flavoured with Schwartz Ground Cinnamon and sweetened only with fruit and honey
Ingredients
- 150g apple sauce
- 75g coconut oil or butter, melted
- 70g honey
- 60g plain yogurt
- 1 egg
- 275g plain flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- ¾ tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp Schwartz Ground Cinnamon
To top:
- 1 small apple, chopped
- 1 tsp brown sugar
- ½ tsp Schwartz Ground Cinnamon
Instructions
- In a large jug mix together the apple sauce, melted coconut oil or butter, honey, yogurt and egg.
- In a large bowl add the flour, baking powder, baking soda and cinnamon and mix.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix with a spoon just enough to combine everything.
- Pour the mixture into a greased and line loaf tin.
- In a small bowl toss together the chopped apples, sugar and cinnamon and sprinkle these over the top of the cake.
- Bake in the oven at 180c for 30 minutes. Remove and cover the tin loosely with foil (this stops the top from over-browning) and return to the oven for another 20 minutes until cooked through.
- Allow to cool a little before removing from the tin by lifting up the sides of the paper.
- Allow to cool further on a wire rack before slicing and serving.

What size loaf tin do you use please?
Vicky says
Hi Jacqui, all depends on how deep you would like the cake to be, we suggest starting with a 23cm and go from there. Hope this is helpful. Please let us know how it turns out. We love seeing your creations.

Can you make this as little individual cakes?
Bianca Carey Spencer says
Hi Olivia,
Yes absolutely! Although you would have to adjust the cooking times if making individual cakes. We’ve not tried it ourselves so not sure on exact timings so if you do try it, please do come back and let us know how you got on!
