My little boy has turned into an absolute snack monster recently. He’s just turned two and I know he’s growing quite rapidly but he seems to be constantly hungry and has started to root through the cupboards looking for food!
Coming up with different ideas for healthy snacks has been a bit of a challenge. He’s been having lots of chopped fruit with cheese and sometimes breadsticks too but I thought it was time to get a bit more creative with his snacks before he starts to get bored of the same old things.
So this weekend I made these super simple Banana & Orange Oat Toddler Bites. They literally just contain those three ingredients and are so easy to make. They contain no added sugar or sweetener and are also gluten free, dairy free, egg free and nut free; so great for families with allergies and intolerances.

These bites are super soft, meaning they’re perfect for toddlers and also weaning babies who already have a couple of teeth.
Because of the fresh banana these bites are best eaten within 48 hours of making. But you can easily make a big batch and freeze them. They will defrost in a couple of hours when left out and can be warmed in the microwave or oven too.

Total Time: 15 minutes
Yield: 11 1x
Category: Snacks
Method: Baked
Cuisine: European
- Diet: Gluten Free
Description
Make these delicious and healthy snacks for kids with just three simple ingredients. Great for toddlers and weaning babies with a few teeth!
Ingredients
- 1 ripe banana
- 40ml / ¼ cup orange juice
- 75g / 1 cup rolled oats
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 170c / 340f and line a baking tray with parchment paper or a non stick silicone sheet.
- Mash the banana in a bowl with a fork. Add the orange juice and mix well. Then add the oats and mix together until everything is well combined.
- Take one tablespoon of the oat mixture, shape into a round cookie shape and place on the baking tray. Repeat with the remainder of the mixture. I made 11 bites from this.
- Bake in the oven for 10 minutes. Allow to cool on a wire rack.
Notes
These bites will keep in an airtight container for 2 days. They can also be frozen. Wrap each bite individually in parchment paper and place them all together in a freezer bag. To defrost simply take out of the freezer and leave for 2 hours. They can also be warmed in the oven or microwave.

Great! adding Chocolate chips is a fab idea.

Quick and amazingly easy! My 3-year-old wasn’t a fan, but my 10-month old keeps gobbling them up. The texture is so good for her to hold mess-free, but still soft enough for her to eat. Thank you!

I am the Food Service Manager/Chef for a Preschool for children ages 6 months to 5 years. This is a FANTASTIC recipe! I post a weekly recipe to share with parents and teachers and I featured this last week. I also made them for an afternoon snack and the kids LOVED them! I like that they can also be frozen.

I love how easy and wholesome these are, but I have to wonder if US rolled oats are different than UK? Mine looked very different than your photos- maybe instant oats would produce results more like yours? Mine seemed more heavy and the oats are large. Also, I think the conversion might be a little off because my measuring cup showed 1/4 cup being more than 50mL. I did not weigh the oats just used 1 cup, so I’m not sure if those were off, too. I will play around and see if I can make them look more like yours! Love the idea!

My little girl loved these. However, I was disappointed when I came down the next morning and all the banana mush in them had gone brown/black.
Did I not cook them enough? Should they be kept in an airtight container in the refridgerator, instead of just in a container on the counter?

Hi Kayla, sorry this happened. It hasn’t happened to me before but I think it may because of the warm weather. Perhaps its best to keep them in the fridge.

Super easy to make with everyday ingredients (I’m on holidays so don’t have my usual staple of food but had everything handy here to make them anyway) and approved by toddler 🙂 definitely a recipe to keep ! Thanks Ciara 🙂

Hi Ciara, I made this bites but I think they are a bit heavy for my baby, can I soak the oats to turn them more digestible?
Ciara Attwell says
If you like yes, but the mixture will then become a lot more soggy and might not keep their biscuit shape when baked.
Sara says
Hi there! I’m excited to try these buy I have a couple questions.. did you use orange juice like from concentrate or did you use real juice squeezed from an orange? Also if I wanted to freeze them, would I freeze them before or after baking them?
Ciara Attwell says
Hi Sara – either orange juice is fine. Whatever you have in! I would freeze them after baking!
Ali says
Great tasty bites. Gonna add blueberries and cranberries and cherries next time
Ciara Attwell says
Oh that would be lovely! So glad you enjoyed them!
Nins says
Would you add these instead of banana?
Jess says
Hey there! I was wondering if there was another option then using juice. We have cut my 3 year old daughter off of juice/most refined sugar. Im looking for snacks for this picky little lady and things are getting repetitive…… Help!
Ciara Attwell says
Hi, you could try milk instead.
Nadia says
These were fantastic for using up my lone overripe banana – I didn’t have orange juice on hand and used some leftover pineapple juice instead. Great recipe and a flexible one, too. I will definitely be using again. Thank you!
Ciara Attwell says
Pineapple juice sounds fantastic Nadia! So glad you enjoyed the recipe, thanks for taking time to come back and comment!

I brought these to a mommy/toddler playgroup today and the little guys (all around 1yr old) really enjoyed them. One mom commented that shes’s going to make them for her recovery snack after long runs. I thought they were pretty tasty too.
