This simple French Toast or Eggy Bread recipe makes the perfect finger food for weaning babies and toddlers too!
My kids are well beyond the weaning stage now but I still get so many requests for both baby puree and baby led weaning recipes.
Baby led weaning in particular has grown massively in popularity in the last few years but lots of parents are still unsure as to the types of foods which are best to start with.
This Baby French Toast (or some people might call it Eggy Banana Bread) is a great recipe to get you started on your baby led weaning journey.
It’s made from just a few simple ingredients – wholemeal bread, egg, banana and your baby’s usual milk and is super quick and simple to make.
The bread stays really soft, making it perfect for babies as it’s still firm enough for them to hold it in their hand.
I left the crusts on for this recipe but if your baby has not yet got any teeth then you might want to remove them so that they are only eating the very soft bread and not the harder crusts.
The banana adds a lovely sweetness to the bread but if you wanted to experiment with different flavours you could try adding a splash of orange juice instead of milk or maybe a sprinkling of cinnamon. The options are endless!

I tried this recipe with my little one and he loved it!!
He is 6 months old and l am still a bit nervous about giving him cows milk but read that yoghurt at this age is ok. I substituted the milk for Greek yoghurt added some cinnamon, chia seeds and desiccated coconut.
I also used coconut oil to give a bit more of a coconut flavour. They were delicious!!
It was soft enough for my little one to chew but still firm enough for him to hold in his hands.

These were super easy & super yummy! Couldn’t post a pic as mine were not the most attractive but my 10 month old & I thoroughly enjoyed these for breakfast today. Any tips on how to stop them sticking to the pan would be great though. Thank you for all the recipe – perfect for busy mums with clingy babies!

Turn the heat way down if they are sticking. And maybe add a bit more butter.
Amanda says
Great recipe! My 9 month old is so picky I couldnβt believe he voluntarily opened his mouth for this one. Thanks! How would you recommend this to be reheated after left in the fridge up to two days ?
Ciara Attwell says
Hi, you can fry it again to warm it through
Mindy says
fantastic! My 9mo old and 2 year old love it. I added some cinnamon and it was prefect. Normally my 2 year old won’t eat wheat bread and is picky with eggs and she gobbled it up. The 9 month old just loves food in general. I even made myself a piece it was that good.
